Over The Top Chocolate Cookies Plus a Cadbury’s Give Away!
A bunch of Cadbury’s Chocolate was delivered to my door the other day. Some family blocks, a few smaller bars and some packets of the new buttons.
Some days it is good to be a blogger.
The Father Figure and I chomped our way through a family block. He took the bars to work for a snack. I took a family block to a friends place to share. And I sent a packet of the buttons to a friend stuck in hospital with a sick child.
I still had a packet of buttons left. Then I realised that I hadn’t shared any with my kids, not that they usually get to eat chocolate, but it seemed mean that I shared it with everyone else, eaten way more than my fair share but hadn’t let the kids have any.
So one night, right in the middle of cooking dinner, I decided I’d make cookies… you know, because I am insane.
I failed to calculate the amount of trays I owned verses the amount of trays that were already full of vegetables roasting in my oven, let alone the amount of oven space. So what should have been a quick round of cookie baking turned into a crazy juggling act of oven racks, trays, zucchinis and chocolate buttons.
Eventually I got dinner on the table, and served up some giant over the top chocolate button cookies for dessert… and I only burned my hand twice!
Over The Top Chocolate Button Cookie Recipe.
185 grams of softened butter
3/4 of a cup of brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups of self raising flour
2 tsp corn flour
2 tbsp coco
chocolate buttons
Pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees, and make sure you actually have enough trays and some non-stick baking paper.
Cream the butter and sugar, then add the egg and mix well. Fold in the flour, corn flour and coco. You should probably sift these three ingredients together, but I am too lazy for that!
Place big round balls of dough on the trays and squish a big Cadbury button down into the top of each ball. Cook for 7-10 minutes, no longer!
They will still be very soft when you take them out of the oven, let them cool on the tray (another reason to make sure you have lots of trays) before putting them in an air tight container to store… oh who am I kidding, eat them while still warm and gooey!

Chocolate makes me feel better, heartaches all soothed.
Cadbury , oh Cadbury it’s so hard to choose.
No matter which one you pick, you just can’t lose.
But I’m all out of chocolate – I’ve had an attack
Chocolate gives me a comfort pat on the back
*Sob* so with boring chocolate chips, here I sit
Drooling now over the need to resist !
The marathon man,
Eats chocolate,
he can.
I eat chocolate too,
and look great..
Not true!
We love it, we two.
Only Cadbury’s will do.
So I want it,
but I want to be fit,
Hmm… shall I?
Yes, you cry.
chomp, chomp, chomp.
I like chocolate, yes I do!
Even though it is brown like poo.
Chocolate makes the sun shine bright,
not like stinky vegemite.
(poem written by 4 year old son)
Chocolate can drown out those maddening, deafening screams
It can turn your worst  nightmares into the sweetest of sweet dreams
If there’s a darkened tunnel,it’s the bright  light at the end
It comforts and cheers you up more than a best friend!
It stops childish tantrums, and band-aids can’t compare
To fix any ache or pain, you just need chocolate to be there.
It’s reunited lovers, it gives low days a lift
It’s the only hope you’ve got if you need an “I’m sorry” giftÂ
Its your companion as you cry through  The Notebook yet again
It’s knows just how to please you (unlike many men!)
Dark, milk or smooth creamy white,
pop the whole lot in or just a little bite,
melt it down and stir it through,
mix it up is what I will do,
hide it from the kids and their gobs,
sneakily eat it while they do their jobs.
When there’s none I get a scare,
whinge complain that it’s not fair,
down to the shops to buy some more,
It’s on special…what a score!
Chocolate eggs everywhere we look
But why oh why do they make me sook?
Dora, Cars, Barbie, glitz
Nothing at all to do with the real Easter bits!
Make your own my friends decreed
So Cadbury buttons are what I need!
My hubby is a choccy FREAK!
He eats 27 blocks a week
I woke on night
With such a fright
To see he’d eaten a block in his SLEEP!
There was a young woman who lived in a shoe
She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do
So she used choccies as a bribe
To keep her sanity alive
Come one Kate, I’m sure you would too!
Oh chocolate your so sweet,
I love every moment we get to meet.
The more I see you,
The more I need you
Chocolate chocolate you are so sweet
Chocolate is brown,
Chocolate is yummy,
I need it right now,
Down deep in my tummy!
(short but sweet, yes?)
It’s chocolate !
It’s chocolate !
I eat it all the time
And when I am not eating it,
It’s always on my mind.
So early in the morning,
I motivate my feet
And grab myself some chocolate
And give myself a treat !
I’ve always loved my chocolate
Even as a little girl
My Nan would give me half a piece
For doing a ballerina twirl
My Pop would give me even more
If I didn’t tell my Mum
Of course I didn’t blab to her
I was young, but not so dumb.
These days chocolate takes me back
To childhood free and fun
If I feel sad I reach for the pack
And eat another one!
Chocolate, oh chocolate I love you to pieces,
Chocolate, oh chocolate your joy never ceases.
In my mouth, in my tum, on my hips, on my bum.
Chocolate, oh chocolate I love you to pieces.
Chocoolate heaven i would be in
If this great pack of chocolate i could win
I eat it with everything and even for tea
(Im pregnant with number four you see)
I think i deserve a little treat
to handle the little ones at me feet
A chocolate house on a chocolate street,
Beneath a chocolate sky,
A chocolate postman delivering mail,
As chocolate birdies fly…
Chocolate children playing,
With little chocolate doggies,
Rivers filled with liquid chocolate,
The croak of chocolate froggies…
And then the sunshine peeks through,
Golden tentacles splay…
A small problem for this chocolate world,
That begins to melt away…
Well, chocolate wasn’t meant to last…!
Chocolate appeals to me,
It is the ultimate indulgent luxury,
Perfectly safe non judgemental and friendly,
It never makes me cry or feel guilty,
Sharing is easy,
As chocolate ever get refused by friends and family,
But most of all I love Chocolate’s loyalty,
Always there in times of need and sympathy.
Whether ’tis Dark, Milk, or White,
chocolate’s smooth, creamy, delicious bite:
fulfils my sweet tooth from morning ’til night;
and welcomes me with a comforting respite.
(Disclaimer: My Mum reckons she made this up, but I think its a poem she learnt at school back in the 1960s and changed it to suit the bunny who lives inside and um err drops packages, but I promise I get to them before my kids do!)
