He wanted pears. I bought him pears.
For weeks he ate pears, pears and more pears.
Then he stopped.
No one else eats pears.
Now I have a bowl full of pears slowly turning to brown mush.
Solution?
Make pear crumble muffins!
These pear crumbe muffins are easy to make and a great way to use up leftover pears.
You can make them from scratch or use our easy homemade muffin mix to get them made and in the oven super fast!
Pear Crumble Muffins using Homemade Muffin Mix

- For the Muffins
- ¼ cup oil or melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 2½ cups of homemade muffin mix
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2-3 pears diced
- For the Crumble Topping
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (lightly packed)
- 1/3 cup plain flour
- 60 gms butter – cold, cubed.
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 ysp allspice
- Preheat your oven to 180 Celsius (approximately 360 F).
- In a large bowl combine the eggs, oil, and vanilla, and beat well.
- Add the muffin mix, and the milk a little at a time and mix gently

- To make the crumble topping combine the flour, sugar, and spices in a small bowl
- Add the cold butter and rub or cut it into the mixture until it forms crumbs.

- Fill a muffin tin with paper cases or grease well.
- Fill the muffin cases three quarters full with mxitre and push pieces of diced pear into the mixture. Add as much pear as you can without it getting too full.
- Sprinkle the top of each muffin with crumble topping, patting down gently, then add a little more if you can!
- Bake in a moderate oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges begin to brown and a skewe inserted comes out clean.
Pear Crumble Muffins from Scratch
- For the Muffins”
- 185 g butter – softened
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/4 cups self raising flour
- 1/4 cups plain flour
- 3 tbsp milk
- 2-3 pears – diced.
- For the Crumble Topping:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (lightly packed)
- 1/3 cup plain flour
- 60 gms butter – cold, cubed
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/5 tsp allspice
- Preheat your oven to 180 Celsius (approximately 360 F).
- In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla, then eggs one at a time, mixing well between each one.
- In a separate bowl sift or whisk the two flours together, then add the flour to the mixture a little at a time, alternating with the milk. Mix until combined.

- For the crumble topping:
- Combine the flour, sugar and spices in a small bowl. Add the cold cubes of butter and rub or cut it into the mixture until it forms crumbs.

- Fill large cupcake liners three quarters full and push pieces of diced pear into the top of the mixture. Cram in as many as you can fit without overflowing the cupcake liner.
- Sprinkle the top of each muffin with crumble topping. Pat down gently then add a little more!
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges begin to brown and a skewer inserted comes out clean.
Now, all of a sudden, everyone eats pears!
And all I’m left with is the crumbs!

Ha ha – Why does that always happen? My house too – often. They love something, must have it, cant eat anything else… and then bam! It stops. I love how you have made it into a solution.

My four kids are just the same, no matter if they’re 2 or 16…believe me! It’s a yummy recipe and I’ve just received a bag full of pears, I’ve already made some chutney (which they love) and some jars of jam, but the bag is still full, so I’ll give this crumble muffins a try! Just checking, 2/4 cups of plain flour. Do you mean 1/2 or 1/4???

Great Recipe! I cut the crumbly topping in half since i made a dozen muffins. My husband loved them and I am using this as a base for other fruit muffins (Blueberries in the oven as we speak.)
