Reading
He’s learning to read.
I never realised how empowering that was till I watched my kids do it.
What have your kids done that has surprised, amazed or delighted you?
Kate is a mum of four, with a degree in early childhood education, and many years experience as an early years teacher and parent educator.
Kate created picklebums to help parents and teachers find lots of play-based activities and printables for kids aged 2-10.
watching your child learn to read is one of the best things! My daughter is just learning now and she grabs books and reads them to whoever will listen..i love it!
I can’t wait til JJ learns to read. She’s starting to recognise letters – that’s a start!
I agree.
As a teacher you are a witness to kids learning new skills, such as reading, all the time. But, it’s different as a parent. You get to see the whole process from the moment they are born and know that you are part of it.
Exciting times for you ahead.
At the moment I am amazed that my 8 month old son knows how to engage strangers with a smile, a laugh, a snort or a growl. He does it in the supermarket line and at the doctors.
My daughter is at kinder for four hours a week. This is the first time in 4 years that she’s not been in my care. I am impressed with the way she is learning about friendships and loyalty all on her own- without Mummy whispering in her ear.
My son is starting to learn to read at the moment too. He also revealed to us the other day that he can count to 150, and is starting to understand angles. The concepts he just understands immediately amaze me!! I might be biased, but I think he’s probably the world’s smartest 4year old.
