Update 2020:
In recent years we have become more aware of some problematic themes and racism in some Dr Seuss books.

While Dr Seuss books will always be a nostalgic part of my childhood, and the childhood of so many, I think it is important to acknowledge and learn about the issues in his writing, and to talk about it with our kids. For young children that might mean simply being aware of the issues, and critically looking at the books before you decide to share them with your children, and for older children you can talk about how race and gender is depicted in books. And it’s important to make sure you are reading a wide variety of books and specifically seeking out children’s books that show diverse voices and experiences.

    1. We are fellow Seuss fans and “Oh! The places you will go” is my absolute favourite.
My favourite quote from Dr Seuss is “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

    2. There is so much to love about Dr Seuss. One of my favourite books is “Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!”

And I love this quote from “I can read with my eyes shut!”:
      “The more that you read,
the more things you will know.
      The more that you learn,
      the more places you’ll go.”

Loved reading your favourite quotes Kate!

    3. Dr Seuss books remind me of my childhood. I have been seeing all sorts of Dr Seuss books in the shops recently, and I hadn’t heard of half of them. I guess our collection when I was a kid was rather small. I love Hop on Pop, Fox in Socks, and Green Eggs and Ham.

    4. I do like the Seuss books and my favourite line is:
“And you’re lucky, indeed, you don’t ride a camel.
To ride on a camel you sit on a wamel.
A wamel, you know, is a sort of a saddle
held on by a button that’s known as a faddle.
And boy! If your old wamel-faddle gets loose,
I’m telling you , Duckie, you’re gone like a goose.”
from Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are.

I haven’t read Horton Hears a Who, but I’ve heard its a bit chauvinistic – the Mayor has 96 daughters and 1 son and its all about the son saving the town etc…

    5. Seus is a true life coach. I have held “I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew” as a guide to life for a long, long time. having read your quotes I might have to re read some others agian
