I had to wrap some early Christmas presents on the weekend.
I wrapped some books, and some bowls of yummy goodies and a couple of toys, and then I got to the pile of little gifts we were giving to my niece and nephews and wondered how on earth I was going to wrap all these odd shaped bits and pieces, along with some money?
Then I had a brain wave… I suddenly remembered the little plastic stockings you buy at the shops full of lollies and junky toys and decided I would make my own!

How to Make Sewn Paper Christmas Stockings
These cute little paper Christmas stockings are super easy to make and perfect for wrapping small, odd shaped gifts, money or gift cards.
To make a paper Christmas stocking you’ll need:
- Our free printable templates (see below)
- Some paper to print on – regular printer paper works fine
- A colour printer
- Scissors
- A sewing machine and thread.
These little sewn paper stockings are really quick and easy to make. Just download the free printable below, pick one of the designs, and print out both pages. I use a regular inkjet printer and regular printer/copy paper to print the stockings.
Then you just need to cut around each side of the stocking and sew them together. A regular sewing machine will sew paper easily, and it’s just like sewing fabric, you just need to go slowly and be a bit careful with the turns.

If you don’t have a sewing machine, double sided tape works well too, or you could try some strong glue.
Now that you have made your paper stocking, just fill them with goodies, and then fold the top piece in half and sew it across the top of the stocking to close up your stocking and you are done!
We filled ours paper stockings with gel pens, fun little erasers, mini note books, sweet treats and some money. You could also add gift cards, glow sticks, stickers, jewellery, or just about any other small item that takes your fancy.
