Sovereign Hill - a day of gold rush history and fun

On Monday the kids and I were treated to a day at Sovereign Hill, Ballerat. We have visited before, staying the night last year and spending two days at Sovereign Hill plus seeing the sound and light show in the evening. We loved it last year and we loved visiting again these school holidays.

This visit we spent lots of time in the quieter parts of the recreated 1850s gold rush town, as well as taking in a few of the special school holidays Christmas in July activities.

Sovereign Hill - a day of gold rush history and fun I love the smell of the candle works and the kids love dipping their own rainbow candles.

During these school holidays Sovereign Hill is celebrating Christmas in July with ‘snow’ falling in main street and all kinds of other Christmas activities. I highly recommend the gingerbread decorating!

If you are in Victoria and looking for a school holiday activity we think Sovereign Hill is a great place to spend a day, or two.

Are your kids on holidays right now? Have you got any plans for great day trips?

What a gorgeous day out you had as a family! Loved looking closely at all the pictures. Sovereign Hill is a great place for children (and adults) to learn about the Gold Rush. Thanks for sharing.

You know, I have never ever been! I must have been sick that day at school or something because *everyone* I know has been there at least once. Looking at your delightful photos is making me think that I would love to go and take the kids.. and the snow! oh, what fun :D
