Swimming!
“Swimming, swimming,
In the swimming pool.
When days are hot
When days are cold
In the swimming pool!
Breaststroke
Sidestroke
Fancy diving too!
Don’t you wish you never had,
Anything else to do!”
We’ve been singing that song a lot around here this past week. The twinadoes have just completed a week of swimming lessons at our local pool.
Swimming lessons are something that I’ve wanted them to do for such a long time, but it’s not so easy to organise when you have two babies at once. When they were little lessons required an adult for each child – not something we have here all the time. So we waited until they were big enough to go in the pool without an adult, and until we could find a scrap of time to fit it in…. and oh how they loved it!
We’ve taken all the kids to the pool and to the beach on a number of occasions with various lovely friends and relatives to help out. So the girls were pretty confident in the water, and had just gotten to a point where they were ok with going under. They were so ready for lessons and took to it so well. They can now float with a noodle under their heads, kick across the pool with a noodle or kick board and a little help and just about dog paddle… and their confidence has gone through the roof!
We also managed to take Muski in for a swim three out of the five days and he’s beginning to relax about getting his face wet and he’s actually quite good at floating and kicking with some support.
I’ve toyed with the idea of signing the girls up for a weekly swimming lesson this term, but we really just don’t have time for another activity. Especially not this term, with ballet concert extra rehearsals, school visits and birthdays. So we’ve settled for doing another week of lessons in the Christmas holidays, and thinking about it for second term next year.
I’m also pretty keen to take Muski swimming regularly next year – either to lessons or just the two of us for a play while the girls are at school. Plus I’m trying to eek out some time for me to go water aerobics or lap swim.
I just love being in the water and I’m so glad my kids do too!
Swimming is so fantastic. I finally signed my girls up for weekly lessons last year and it is the best thing I ever did. Our swim school has been offering CPR courses for parents also which I did just this week.
we just started swimming lessons this term …I agree it is so hard with just one adult and twins when toddlers/preschooler age.
Daddy has come a few times.
Immy loves the water too and goes to lessons on Saturdays with her Dad. Me, not so much, I am not that confident in the water!
So glad the girls are enjoying it! My daughter is a waterbaby, and scarily way more confident then the skills she has!
We’ve just signed up again for weekly lessons next term (we had last term off), and life’s going to be busy as we also have lots of extra ballet concert rehearsals!
