We Play… Sorting!
Joining in with childhood101.com’s We Play series today – head on over and check out all the inspiring ideas this week!
We’ve played with this impromptu sorting tray for the last few days!
It’s just a seedling tray from our local nursery – they give them away free to carry your seedlings, or if you are almost three and just fancy the look of the bright orange compartments they let you have them just for fun!
Once we got home we rummaged around and got out a few bits and pieces that would fit nicely in the tray. We raided out natural materials box for shells and banskia nuts, gum nuts and stones. We found a few coloured glass pebbles. Later on we got more tricky when we dug out some plastic threading wheels and sorted them by colour. We’ve also sorted small animals, blocks and the big girls have even sorted some of their word cards.
Who’d have thought one little seedling tray could be so much fun. We are going back to get two more soon!
Kate, I LOVE this so much! Like so much! What a wonderful way to reuse a seedling tray. I can just imagine how my children would enjoy this activity. Thanks.
Fantastic idea! I think a trip to Bunnings might be in order over the weekend to see if we can’t find ourselves a new sorter. Thanks for sharing :)
What a great sorting tray, can see a visit to the nursery on our horizon too!
Simple, easy, fun: love it!
What a great idea, thanks for the inspiration. I wonder if I would be able to round up 20 of them for my classroom??? Hrmmm???

That looks like such a fun game. It’s great that the nursery is giving them away to little kids to play with.
