East Art Ideas for Kids - Aussies can win a Micador Art pack with everything you need to try out these activities

In case you haven’t noticed, we do quite a few art activities at The Pickle Farm.

I love doing arty things as much as my kids do, which is probably the biggest reason why we do so much of it, but I also believe that art for kids should be easy!

I am busy enough, without throwing elaborate, time consuming, and expensive art projects into the mix. There is nothing that puts me off more, than a project that takes hours to set up, and even longer to clean up, or one that needs fancy equipment that I have to go out and buy. There is a time and place for art and craft projects that have fancy end products (though mine never look like the ones in the picture!), but in general, I think doing art with your kids should be simple, fun and doable!

Here are are few of the fun and easy art ideas we’ve shared this year…

    1. Bit messy!, but dinosaur eggs has been a family favourite with my toddlers. Add a small plastic dinosaur to a blown up balloon. Cover in paper mâché, kids love this bit! When dry pop and remove balloon and cover hole. Kids can decorate anyway they wish, textas, paints, collage. They then have their very own magical dinosaur egg. Depending on the child, they will nurture their egg for weeks or hatch it first chance they get!

    2. The most Creative project I do with my 2.5year old is walk around the reserve and collect sticks, leaves & rocks.
Once home (and after a nap) I have all the sticks, leaves, rocks etc ready for him on his table out the back and get an old shoe box and together we create a little world for his little toy animals to play in!
Not only does he get time outdoors, he is learning so much about nature.
Thank You for the opportunity in your competition PickleBums & Micador :)

    3. My kids love collecting things from outdoors to use with paint-feathers, leaves, sticks even found a golf ball that they rolled in paint & enjoyed the dimpled pattern it left. Outside fun & they enjoyed the creativity of using different objects!

    4. My kids love art! One of their faves is going to the local botanical gardens for a walk and collecting the pine cones to paint and decorate for their grandparents for Xmas and they also love chalk painting…all you need is a driveway, chalk and a spray bottle of water!

    5. The easiest art activity we do here is using a plastic container divided into 4 or 6 sections ( think of the container you would buy Donuts in from Coles), lots of paint colours, paper and cotton tips!! Kids love this and is produces quite intricate pictures, and lots of concentration.. When finished it all just goes in the bin! No washing of paint pots or brushes! Too easy!

    6. our favourite easy art activity is decorating ourselves. Washable paints and markers allow for so many ways to decorate your face , hands , arms …everything . Then clean that body canvas off in the bath (or with hose) and start again .

    7. myself and my girls aged 2 and 3 love to create pictures from hand and foot prints, our latest two have been butterflies made from rainbow painted feet and just this weekend gone we panited green feet and turned them in to ‘MistleToes’ as christmas pressies for the grandparents. so much fun!! (as long as they dont run away…. pretty painted footprints all over the house! haha, at least i could track them down :\ ) I love art that reflects them, either their ideas or their ‘prints’ so much fun! (we are currently making height charts and this would come in super handy !!!)

    8. my daughter has a huge tub of recycled boxes, containers, lids etc and another with bits and pieces like material scraps, pom poms, sequins, string, foam shapes, textas, pencils, masking tape etc , she’s occupied for hours creating all different things from cars, houses, robots etc

    9. My kids love water and paint so we combine the two and have hours of fun creating different environments like we draw some fire onto some paper stick it around the garden then put on our fire hats fill up spray bottles with a little bit of blue paint and some water then they have fun spraying out the fires and creating great paintings. We also draw different flowers and vegetables and pretend we are watering them to help them grow. Lots of fun had by all

    10. I like doing rubbings – it doesn’t cost much, often involves the natural world (leaves etc) and can even involve a guessing game of what the rubbing is of

    11. I love anything with watercolours for my kids. Set it out in less than a minute, let them go wildly creative with a rainbow of colours and then pack it all away quickly and easily. We do plenty of messy but of course my personal favourite has to be the easy option ;-)

    12. My favorite easy art projects to do are anything to do with canvas and Modge podge!!! My daughters and I love taking pictures or photos and making beautiful canvases, we paint them, glitter them up, make them unique then hang them if gift them!!! awesome fun to be had:)

    13. The kids & I love to create painted designs on t-shirts & sneakers
then add some bling we put coloured shoe laces in the sneakers to brighten them up and
      add to our art

    14. We have been making slime, playdoh and fingerpaints etc from recipes I’ve come across on facebook. It’s amazing how many clever ideas you can pick up on this socialnetwork site. My grandchildren and I are never without any art and craft projects thanks to all the clever ladies out there. Easy to make out of everyday products most people have in their home for a fraction of the price of what it would cost to buy them. With 6 grandchildren, I save a fortune.

    15. We love to blow up balloons and individually place in them some glitter, paint, confetti, sand, and then tie them to a clothes airer. Placing paper underneath, covered with a layer of glue the kids have the fun of popping the balloons and seeing the terrific patterns that form. The best creations we frame as keepsakes, others we use as wrapping paper for presents or cut up and make handmade cards from the children. So versatile and so much giggly fun.

What I love about this it that it’s an outdoor activity and all the mess can be hosed away on the lawn.

    16. Our 3 (7, 5.5 and 4 year olds) all love painting, but when I don’t have the energy to supervise this potentially messy activity, I pull out the oil or soft pastels. The kids love being able to rub the lines to soften the detail and have hours of fun :)

    17. Erin loves to make things out of pipe cleaners. She’s made all sorts of dinosaurs, flamingoes and other animals. We’ve even made a viking long ship while learning about vikings in history.

    18. Good ol’ fashion freestyle painting with crisp white paper, yummy colours, shiny new brushes and crystal clear water. Quality products. Every picture – a little ones masterpiece.
