Tape.
Sticky tape, masking tape, electrical tape, gaffa tap.
My kids love tape.
Tape provides much crafting joy around here, and it never lasts long! So I knew I had a sure fire boredom buster up my sleeve when I picked up a roll of masking tape for each of my big kids.
Then one cold, wet, miserable day last week I quietly collected up a range of materials and got out the tape.
There were boxes, egg cartons, packaging, toilet rolls and some newspaper. I sat and rolled some of the newspaper into long tubes as I waited for someone to notice all the goodies on the table.
It didn’t take long for Morgan to notice and as I handed him a roll of tape and told him it was his to use however he liked, his excitement drew Zoe in (Izzy was sick in bed the poor poppet) and before long they were busy creating.
There was much discussion and some failures as they figured out how to get things to attach in the way they wanted them to, and loads of fun.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that kids art activities have to be something amazing, or messy, or difficult. Most often it is something as simple as a few rolls of tape and some junk from the recycling that provides hours of fun and loads of learning… and it wasn’t even that hard to pack up!

Love it. Only last week did I start collecting certain items from our recycling to keep aside for Tricky to play with!

I wish I owned shares in tape companies. We have been through a truck load these school holidays!

My son is only 2, but a roll of masking tape from the dollar store has been a huge source of entertainment for him lately. He loved to unroll it, and he places strips onto his art. This is one craft supply he keeps begging for.

My 4 year old loves tape! He usually flips the little table over and saps it around, over to the dining table and walls and then starts sticking things to all the lines of tape. It reminds me a bit of that art installation where everyone wraps coloured elastic around poles. Think we’ll do a version of that in the backyard wih tall garden stake and wool once we get a dry day….

Oops, saps = wraps
