Posessed!
Izzy had her third night terror last night.
It really does look a lot like she is possessed by something or someone when she goes off. Just like the classic exorcist movie she thrashes around, her eyes roll back in her head and she cries and groans and screams ‘I don’t want to! I don’t want to!’ over and over.
If you touch her she screams but she also reaches out and if you are not there to hold her she screams. The only recognisable words are ‘I don’t want to’ though I have no idea what she doesn’t want. She often looks like she is wide awake – eyes open and focussing on things and reacting to things, but then other times it looks like she is dead asleep and totally dreaming.
We are fairly sure these are classic night terrors – which means there is nothing much you can do about them except ride it out and wait for it to go away.
Last night was a long one… more than 45 minutes. No matter what you do nothing seems to help, you just have to wait it out . This time she stopped suddenly and told me she was sick (she had had a raging temp the day before but was fine the next day) and asked for medicine for her cough. I gave her a drink and she asked to lay in my bed and watch TV…. as soon as Iayed her down and turned on Survivor she was asleep.
As quickly as they come, they go. Last time mid scream she stopped looked me dead in the eye and asked for a drink of milk. Half a sip of milk later she was asleep in my arms.
It is really bizarre to watch… rather disturbing seeing you can’t do a thing to help, and she often looks like she is either petrified by something or in incredible pain. So we are hoping this is a quick phase as it’s really not fun for anyone.
awwww((hugs)) to you both. We went through these for quite some time with Beren and its very hard to watch and go through.
Hugs Kate.. hoping that it’s a quick phase too ((( hugs ))
