I love rainbows… they just make me happy. I’ll take any excuse to do something rainbow themed, and Sat Patrick’s day seems like a good one to me! So I combined two of our favourite things – rainbows and play dough to come up with this fun rainbow playdough invitation to play.
Making a playdough rainbow is a great for kids to explore colours, learn about the weather, celebrate St Patrick’s day or just have fun with this simple sensory activity.

Rainbow Play Dough Activity.
This fun invitation to make play dough rainbows is so bright and happy, and easy to set up!
Have a hunt through your craft cupboard and around the house to find some fun rainbow coloured items to add to your play dough rainbow tray.
For our rainbow play dough we used:
- Rainbow pom poms
- Mini craft sticks in rainbow colours
- Pony beads in rainbow colours
- Strips of paper in rainbow colours
You could also use pipe cleaners, sequins, straws, gems, white pom poms or cotton wool for clouds, or plastic coins or golden rocks for the gold at the end of the rainbow.
Of course we you will also need play dough in all the colours of the rainbow!
Try this easy microwave playdough recipe for a simple homemade playdough. Make a double batch of plain dough and then separate the into into 7 pieces, adding colour to each piece, and kneading it in.
