The End of the Zoo Days

Yesterday all of us went to the Melbourne Zoo. We’ve been to the zoo a lot over the past four years since we’ve had a Friends of the Zoo (FOTZ) pass but the pass expires at the end of this month and with the girls in school we won’t be renewing it this year. This was probably our last trip to the zoo for quite a while.

We don’t normally go during the school holidays because it gets VERY busy, but we wanted to see the new seal/penguin enclosure before our pass expired and it was well worth it. We went back for a second look before we headed home and happened to see a training session with the seals…. everyone loved it.

I highly recommend the Melbourne Zoo. I have two tips though – bring your own food (food there is expensive and not very flash) and bring a rug to sit on to eat your lunch!
I also highly recommend getting a FOTZ pass (you get in to all three Victorian Zoos free for a year) – ask for one for Christmas like we did, you won’t regret it!

We are going to miss our zoo trips!

Ditto! We stopped our FOTZ membership when Josh started school, and now it is a yearly event. We all loved the new seal exhibit. You might need to go back next week if the baby elephant goes on show before your pass expires!

Have you thought of just paying for yourself ($85) then you can take Morgan and the new baby anytime and only have to pay for the girls when they go in school holidays?

I had been contemplating buying one for Taronga Zoo (though it’s 1.5 hours away), but with my eldest starting school, I’m not sure we’d get to use it enough, especially with the parking costs. Wish I had earlier though!
