What Kids Learn

Kids will work on lots of different skills while do this simple outdoor adventure I spy activity:

  • Visual Perception – kids need to scan and identify objects in a busy scene, working on visual discrimination and tracking skills. They need to pay attention to details, identify shapes, and differentiate between objects, which are essential skills for reading, writing, and math.
  • Math Skills – kids work on number recognition, counting (one to one correspondence), comparing and sorting, and you can easily extend the activity to work on subitising and simple addition.
  • Language skills – kids practice and develop language skills as they identify and name each object. Younger children see print in action, and associate the words with the pictures (important pre-reading skills) and older children work on reading those words.
  • Other Cognitive Skills – apart from all the maths kids are practicing, they are also working on problem solving skills, logical thinking, and using their working memory.
  • Fine Motor Skills – coloring the items is a great way to work on fine motor skills and pre-writing skills.

  1. I love your find and colour printables!!! I like them for my kids, but honestly, I like searching for them too! :) Could you make one that has farm animals? Or maybe types of trucks? Winter sports equipment or just sports in general? I’m sure I could come up with a million ideas for you…and me! ;)

Thanks for the awesome activities. Tomorrow is supposed to be a rainy day and so I have two find and colours that the kids will be working on instead of playing outside during summer break.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas! I am always on the look out for themes that have a lot of image options!

  2. I just discovered your site! I love your find and color sheets. As an elementary Latin teacher (yep, little kids are learning Latin these days), these are a fantastic way to repeat vocabulary. I’d love to see things in a creative child’s messy bedroom, which could include extra’s like a fort (or castle), pet, books, clothes, food, friends, toys, etc.

  3. These may be great for kids but my 88 year old mum who has memory issues loves them. She keeps asking for more so I’m begging–please add more! Thanks so much for the ones you have posted. She really enjoys them.

    1. I do have some more coming… but they take a while to create!
Do you have any ideas for themes your Mother might like?

  4. My school age kids absolutely loved your summer color and find! Thank you! I just found your outdoor one, so we will do that next. They would love any other color and finds that you create! Thank you so much for such a fun workworksheet!
