Snowflake Pattern Mats and Loose Parts

One of my favourite ways to use these snowflake pattern mats with my preschoolers is to combine them with loose parts!

Loose parts play is a fun and creative way to work on fine motor skills! Simply collect a variety of loose parts to place on the pattern lines to decorate the snowflakes.

We chose wooden shapes, beads, pom poms, mini craft sticks, and sequins in blues and whites to decorate the snowflakes.

Snowflake Fine Motor Mats and Playdough

These fine motor mats make great snowflake playdough mats!

Grab some playdough, or make a fresh batch of our easy microwave playdough recipe, and use the dough to follow the patterns of the snowflakes. We added a few sparkly sequins to your playdough snowflakes to give them some extra ‘bling’!

Rolling long sausages of dough to follow the lines of the patterns is a great workout for the small muscles in a child’s hands, practicing lots of pre-writing skills!

Snowflake fine motor activity with markers

Snowflake Fine Motor Pattern Mats and Dot Markers.

Dot markers are another great idea to use with these heart pattern mats. Dot along each pattern line with whatever colours you choose!

This is a great option for toddlers as dotting along the pattern lines is much easier for younger children with less fine motor control, so this is a great way for a younger child to be involved without so much frustration!
