Road Trip Drawing Prompts – Free Printables.

Posted on April 1, 2014 15 Comments

Planning a family trip? Or maybe you have kids who love cars? These road trip drawing prompts are perfect for both!

We are taking a bit of a road trip! Yay!

When you stuff four kids and two adults into a car for hours on end, you need a few distractions to stop you all losing your minds. These road trip drawing prompts will help with that!

When we go on long car trips we usually pack a few small toys (dino crayons like the ones in the photo above double as toys and crayons! – affiliate link), some books, stickers, pens and pencils along with the kids’ journals and some drawing activities.

We do take screens and devices, and we love audio books too, but for long trips the kids need more than just a screen to stare at, so having a stash of ‘car friendly’ activities will make the road trip a lot less stressful for everyone.

For a recent long trip I made up some new drawing prompts that are perfect for a road trip.

Drawing prompts are a great way to encourage reluctant drawers. They give a starting point to spark the imagination, but still allow for lots of free thinking and creativity.

There is no right or wrong ways to draw with these prompts. If your child wants to draw a herd of purple elephants coming down the road, or a sign that says ‘no parents allowed’ that’s awesome! Just let them enjoy the process.

Does the road end at a castle? Or maybe it goes to the beach?

What will your speed sign say? What new sign could you create?

Are there boxes of chocolates in the back of the truck? Or maybe a zoo animal??

Is there a car coming down the road? Or perhaps there is a group of monkeys riding bikes?

These printables are A4 sized pdf files, you will need a pdf reader such as adobe acrobat to open them. If you are printing on US ‘letter sized’ paper be sure to select ‘fit’ or ‘shrink to fit’ from your printer options.

Please remember that the printables at picklebums.com are for personal use only, you may not sell, share, or link directly to these files.

These road trip drawing prompts will save your sanity on your next care ride, or maybe just the next rainy day!

Sometimes I think you read my mind Kate. This is a ‘game’ we always play in the car but without the drawing bits and pieces. This has added a whole new level to our game – thank you so much!!!!
