Apples are a favourite fruit in our house. Not only are delicious raw and the perfect thing to throw at a starving child (not literally, though sometimes I’m tempted!) they are so easy and delicious to cook with.
These 20 awesome apple recipes are among our family’s favourites and I’m sure you’ll love them too!
We seem to magically attract apples. Neighbors give us boxes of apples, a friend lets us pick buckets and buckets from their wild apple tree, and I always seem to be at the supermarket when there is a bag of apples on special. It’s a good thing that we love apples, and that there are so many delicious apple recipes!
“Have an apple” is my go to response when I hear “I’m hungry, what can I eat?” which happens quite a lot in our house! But sometimes even my hungry hoards can’t keep up with the amount of apples we have acquired, so when I have apples that need to be used up, I get out our list of apple recipes
These apple recipes are all quick and easy to make, and most of them are easy enough for the kids to help make them.
If you peel and cut an apple into slices, little children can easily cut them into chunks with a butter knife. It’s an easy and safe way to get kids started with some basic knife skills. Slightly older kids can grate apples for recipes, and with a bit of practice they can learn to peel the apples too.

I’d say apple sauce, either jarred or frozen, useful for adding to cakes and slices for sweetness and added moisture.
Or, dried apple for snacks.
Mmmmm, I feel like apples.

Apple fritters, because we all need to indulge! Hmmmm … apple fritters with ice cream!
Not a fan, as I don’t like fruit peel, but fruit mince stuffed apples. Or just sultanas …

Kate,
Well, if you want to try one of the most popular and tastiest Polish recipes, and you have a sense of adventure, here you go:
http://easteuropeanfood.about.com/od/polishdesserts/r/szarlotka.htm
Szarlotka is like apple pie, but the crust is very, very different (as you can see by both the photo and the list of ingredients). I suggest it because szarlotka turns out best when used with tart apples.
If you decide to try it out, be sure to top the szarlotka with either vanilla ice cream or whipped cream – that way you’ll have the REAL full-on Polish experience ;)

Marita, do you use that like you would lemon butter?

Get a dehydrator! Ours is currently going full pelt drying apples from my father in law’s tree. Some of the layers just have slices of apple, and some have apple & berry fruit leather. Yum! Actually, I think you can do fruit leather in a slow oven, too. Google it!
Dried apples will keep for ages, provided you can keep them out of reach :)

I second stewing & bottling a few jars as they are great to pull out later (I’ve just done a batch tonight).
If you like I can send you some spare garlic cloves to plant (I’ll need to check if that’s legal….from Tasmania?) Anyhow let me know & I’ll get back to you….I’m away for the next week though.
