I finally dragged the camera out yesterday, and again today. I had vague thoughts of snapping a few shots for our Christmas cards, but not was being particularly helpful so I settled for just a few happy snaps.

Head on over to visit Sarcastic Mom’s Weekly Winners for more great photos…

Blogs that Make Me Smile Right Now…

Posted on November 8, 2008

I am kind of doing a cheats version of Lightening’s Smiley Saturday today…. Cause my brain is fried and life is mental so I thought a list of my current escapist blogs would be perfect for today’s post.

A Foothill Home Companion has lots of crafting stuff here and just generally good words about a beautiful life that make you think as well as smile. We are definitely going to make these stick stars as camping christmas tree decorations!

Maya Made just opened her Etsy story with lots of stuff that seems practical yet beautiful. Everyone seems to be talking about her Mini Fall Galette recipe… and while it is not apple season here I have tucked it away for the day we finally have apples on our apple trees.

Miscellaneous Mum. You know I rarely seem to comment on this blog but I read it religiously. An awesome Aussie Mum blogger who just launched her first children’s book, she’s damn funny and makes me giggle often

The Simple Green Frugal Co-op is a group blog with many writers who I already know from their personal blogs and some who I am just beginning to enjoy. Sooooo much knowledge about simple living and garden and good stuff comes out of this blog, you can’t read without learning something.

My feed reader is currently filling up with more and more un-read posts, and yet I keep adding new blogs, even though I know I don’t have the time right now to read let alone comment…. but every now and then I put aside all the ‘have to’s and ’should be doing’s and wallow in the wonderful world of blogs. It allows me to escape the crazies of the current season and it makes me smile. Hopefully after Christmas live will slow a little and if the planets align we may also have decent internet (reading and commenting on blogs via dial-up is slooooow work) and then I promise I will leave you a comment on your blog to say thanks for making me smile all those times way back when life was stressful.

How to Reconnect with your Child…

Posted on November 7, 2008
Filed Under life on the pickle farm

If you’ve had a bad day.

A day when you have shouted way way way too much. A day when you have been frustrated and let it show. A day when you have forgotten how to be understanding and compassionate. A day when you have said things you shouldn’t have said, done things you shouldn’t have done. A day when your kids cry, because of you.

When you’ve had a day like that, a bad day….

What do you do to reconnect with your child?

After the explanation and the apology. After you have wiped their tears and your own. After you have vowed never ever to have another day like that again. After the day is done…

How do you repair that bond? What do you do to get that closeness back again?

Wondering…

Posted on November 6, 2008

Every now and then, when there is a random, quiet moment and I find myself wondering…

I wonder why the millipedes are back in their millions at this time of year when they are usually an autumn enemy, and more importantly I wonder how I can stop them coming into my house and garden and boring holes into the ripening strawberries.

I wonder if the strawberry that Muski stole from under the bird net and gobbled up before I could stop him was one of the ones with a millipede family living in it!

I wonder if my life may be slowly turning into a Disney movie since I found myself making up songs and singing instead of talking to the small boy this afternoon… “there must be more than this pickle farm lifeeeeeeeeeeee”

I wonder if the weather will be kind to me next Thursday.

I wonder when the seeds I planted yesterday will germinate.

I wonder if we will get as many zucchinis this year as in the past and whether the pumpkins will be better this year than last year.

I wonder if I could register late for nablopomo since I am already posting every day anyway.

I wonder if my life will always be this crazy…
