What to Put on a Meal Plan

What you put on a meal plan is entirely up to you. Each family is different so what works for one person might not work for another.

I suggest collecting a list of your family’s favourite meals, and adding a few new recipes you’d like to try, and then add them to your menu plan in whatever way works best for you.

I have shared lots more simple tips for meal planning and some new printable menu plans here

And don’t be afraid to repeat some meals over and over – if your family love them and they are easy to make, go with it!

  1. Menu Planners are great I use them all the time.

I also have what is called a Weekly Planner that lists every thing we are doing that week including down to what shows that way he or I can see at a glance when I’m studying or if there is something else on with out having to check with each other what is happening in the comming days.

I might actually put that up on my own blog in the next week or so.

    1. ah if only my kids all ate spaghetti bolognaise because I’m with you, that would be delish in the triangles!

  2. Love the printables – I’m experimenting with weekly meal planning at the moment as a way to get myself in order…so will give these a try too (although, sometimes it’s better if the kiddos don’t know in advance what’s on the menu – they think it’s their opportunity to give me their opinion!!)
We had persian couscous for dinner tonight – I enjoyed it (variable response from said kiddos :-))

  3. Thanks! I LOVE the colours :) Just printed a heap off to work with. Although I love the thought of using things like the Google calendar, I need to use a pen/pencil and paper for this type of thinking/planning. So, again thanks!

    1. Hi Christine,
If you choose ‘shrink to printable area’ (or similar) on your pdf printer menu, then it should shrink to fit whatever size paper you are using.

      Hope that helps.

    1. I write the dates in the circles and use the ‘what’s on’ squares on the weekly planner to note down things that affect my meal planning. So things like when we having dancing till late, if my husband will be on night shift, if we will be out for dinner or have guests… that sort of thing :)

  4. I’ve tried everything to make this menu planner print but…won’t. It’s cutting off half of the page? My settings are 8.5 x 11 in. Any suggestions.

    1. Make sure your printer settings are for landscape not portrait and make sure you check ‘shrink to printable area’ in the pdf printer settings box before you print… hope that fixes it.

  5. Thanks for sharing, I love the bright colors! I’m trying really hard to implement menu planning this year. I started with your weekly planner but switched to the fortnight version after realizing that planning breakfast and lunch doesn’t really work in our house. It’s also been encouraging me to dig out all of those recipes I’ve wanted to try for so long, we found three new favorites in the last couple of weeks!
